FIND THE RIGHT CAMP FOR YOUR ATHLETE
Magic Basketball Canada camps are built to help parents register with confidence. Our skill-based structure places athletes in the environment that best supports growth, confidence, and enjoyment of the game.
SKILL-BASED CAMPS ARE HERE
This season, Magic Basketball Canada is making an important shift in how camps are structured. Instead of grouping athletes strictly by age, we are using a skill-based format designed to give each player the best possible experience and opportunity to grow.
Not all athletes develop at the same pace. Some players pick up the game quickly, while others need more time to build comfort and confidence with the fundamentals. Grouping by current ability allows our coaches to teach more clearly, challenge players appropriately, and create a better overall camp environment.
- More focused instruction at the right teaching level
- Better confidence for athletes at every stage
- Game reps with players in a similar development range
- A more productive and enjoyable camp experience
CHOOSING THE RIGHT LEVEL
Use this guide to help determine the best starting point for your child. The goal is not to label an athlete. The goal is to place them where they can learn, compete, and build confidence.
BEGINNER
Ideal for athletes who are new to basketball or have limited informal experience.
- Still learning the fundamentals
- Usually dribbles with one hand and looks down
- Developing shooting and passing form
- Gaining confidence with rules and spacing
INTERMEDIATE
Built for athletes with organized experience, community play, or steady camp attendance.
- Comfortable dribbling with both hands
- Can shoot and pass under light pressure
- Understands basic offensive and defensive concepts
- Ready for more game-like settings
ADVANCED
Geared toward athletes preparing for club basketball or already competing at a higher level.
- Strong ball handling under pressure
- Consistently effective shooting and finishing
- Plays at game speed with confidence
- Makes strong decisions on both ends

Athletes get instruction that matches where they are today.
Better Confidence
Players are more likely to stay engaged when the pace feels right.
Stronger Reps
Training with similar-level athletes leads to more useful practice reps.
Long-Term Growth
The right group helps build habits, decisions, and game confidence over time.
SIMPLE FOR PARENTS. SUPPORTIVE FOR ATHLETES.
We know that every child develops at their own pace, and it is not always easy to know exactly where they fit. That is why our coaching staff will observe athletes during the opening session and make sure they are placed in the group that best supports growth.
If we feel a different skill group would better suit your child's current stage of development, we may make an adjustment. That is never a reflection of potential. It is about creating the right environment to learn, feel confident, and improve.
DEVELOPMENT OVER EGO
We kindly ask all parents to approach registration with honesty and a growth mindset. Proper placement plays a major role in making camp productive, positive, and confidence-building for every athlete.
If our staff recommends a different group after the first session, that recommendation is made to support your child's growth, not limit it. The best environment is the one that gives an athlete the right coaching, the right pace, and the right challenge.
Thank you for trusting Magic Basketball Canada with your child's development. We are excited to help athletes grow both on and off the court.
COMMON QUESTIONS
What if my child is between two levels?
Choose the level that most closely reflects how they currently play. Our coaches will help confirm placement during the opening session.
Will my child be moved without notice?
Any adjustment is made to support development and camp experience. The intention is always to place athletes in the right learning environment.
Why not just group by age?
Age does not always reflect current ability. Skill-based groups create better coaching, stronger competition, and more confidence for players.
Is this guide the final decision?
No. This page helps parents make a strong first choice. Final placement still considers what our staff sees on the floor.
